Islamabad United’s red-hot form in the PSL 2025 continued as they cruised to their fifth consecutive victory, powered by a commanding performance from Andries Gous, who anchored a clinical chase of 169 with ease.

After choosing to bat first, Multan Sultans made a solid start, reaching 48 without loss during the powerplay. However, their momentum stalled on a sluggish pitch as United’s spin trio tightened the screws with clever variations and disciplined lines.

Mohammad Nawaz broke the opening partnership by removing Yasir Khan at long on. While Usman Khan kept the scoreboard ticking with his unorthodox hitting, captain Mohammad Rizwan struggled to shift gears and eventually fell tamely to Shadab Khan.

Usman, the standout batter for Multan, reached a brisk half-century off just 29 balls. However, wickets continued to fall around him. Michael Bracewell top-edged a pull off Riley Meredith, and Iftikhar Ahmed gloved a rising delivery from Jason Holder to the keeper. Holder, in his debut PSL season, once again made his mark with his sharp cutters and awkward bounce.

In the penultimate over, Usman was run out while attempting a risky second run, further derailing Multan’s innings. A late cameo from Kamran Ghulam added some respectability to the total, but 168 for 5 looked below par given the conditions.

United’s spinners were the difference-makers, stifling the Sultans through the middle overs and never letting them fully capitalise on their strong start. In contrast, Multan’s own spin attack failed to apply similar pressure, allowing Islamabad’s chase to unfold with minimal resistance.

With momentum firmly on their side, Islamabad United are shaping up as serious contenders in this year’s tournament.
